Nightmare Vacation (2022)

Welcome to Your Nightmare Vacation.

Nightmare Vacation an immersive installation by Nicki Aquino that explores what lingers in the dark corners of the unconscious. Drawing inspiration from horror films, such as Night of the Living Dead (1968), The Shining (1980), and Get Out (2017); this exhibit connects horror motifs to larger concepts of power, domination, and the monstrous “other.”

This installation encourages viewers to reflect on their own past and recurring dreams and consider the following: What could these dreams mean? What values, aspirations, and fears are revealed in these dreams? Further, in what ways does your own psyche reflect larger values and fears in the local, national, and global sphere?

Nightmare Vacation was featured in the Frank-Ratchye Project Space at Root Division as part of the Studio Artist program.
